FAQ

What is Final Fantasy Resonance?
It is the first HD-2D game in the Final Fantasy series — a strategic turn-based RPG that rebuilds the opening story arc of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius into a full console experience, featuring a Visions system that lets characters borrow powers from heroes across the series.
Is Final Fantasy Resonance a remake?
Not in the traditional sense. It is based on the first story arc of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, but Square Enix's own wording is that much of that arc was remade and rebuilt, going beyond a simple port or a 1:1 remake.
Is it the same game as Final Fantasy Brave Exvius?
No. Resonance shares FFBE's opening story foundation — centered on characters like Rain, Lasswell, and Fina — but it is a standalone console RPG with the HD-2D presentation and a rebuilt battle system, not a mobile port.
Is Final Fantasy Resonance a numbered mainline game?
Square Enix describes it as the first HD-2D game in the series and its latest title, but has not announced it as a numbered mainline entry.
Who is developing and publishing it?
LANCARSE Ltd. is the developer and Square Enix is the publisher. Producer Keisuke Nakashima and Director Kaito Furuya lead the project, with music by Elements Garden.
When does it release and on which platforms?
It launches October 22, 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam and Microsoft Store). Square Enix's Japanese site lists Steam as October 23, 2026.

Is Final Fantasy Resonance a Remake?

This is the question people ask most, and the short answer is: no — not in the traditional sense.

Final Fantasy Resonance is based on the first story arc of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius (FFBE), the mobile game. But Square Enix’s own wording is that much of that arc was remade and rebuilt into a full console RPG, going “beyond a simple port or remake.” It is not a 1:1 remake, and it is not a remaster either — it is a large-scale reconstruction of FFBE’s opening story into a standalone game.

Resonance is not “FFBE with the gacha removed.” Square Enix has said the game is “far from just a direct port” of the mobile original. It takes FFBE’s first story arc — centered on characters like Rain, Lasswell, and Fina — and reworks it into a complete console RPG with the HD-2D presentation and a rebuilt battle system.

So the relationship is: a shared story foundation, rebuilt as a new game. If you want to understand how that battle system actually plays, our gameplay and battle system guide walks through turn-based commands, weaknesses, and the Visions system.
